T. Boone Pickens has been all over the news in recent weeks, and it would be hard to not know what the Pickens Plan is about, even if you don’t watch television. But just in case -- the T. Boone Pickens plan calls for the United States to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives, namely wind and natural gas. So what does the plan propose? By harnessing wind power to generate electricity, we will have the flexibility to shift natural gas away from electricity generation, thus freeing up our domestic natural gas stores to be used as transportation fuel. This could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by more than one-third.
According to a 2005 Stanford University study, there’s more than 7 times enough wind power available worldwide to satisfy global demand, even if we can capture only 20% of it. Already under way in the Texas panhandle is Pickens’ Mesa Power, which will be the largest wind farm in the world. The 4,000 megawatt facility will double the current wind energy output of the U.S.
Meeting Pickens’ goals for wind power generation will come at great cost, but will still be cheaper than the $700 billion that the US spends every year on foreign oil.
But what about the plan to power all transportation systems on natural gas? While natural gas may be considered abundant in North America, it’s not exactly sustainable. This leaves plenty of room for technologies such as the ultracapacitor to be used for transportation power.
And of course we will need ways to store wind power. This is yet another application where the ultracapacitor has the opportunity to prove itself. We can’t wait to see what role ultracapacitors will play in the expansion of our wind-generation capabilities over the next few years!

The T.Boone Pickens plan is a great idea, "saving the planet" Pelosi is doing her best to prevent offshore drilling, mostly because she owns 22,000 shares of Pickens Gas (Now Clean Energy Fuels Corporation) so this should help to push his plan. Despite the crookedness of Pelosi, Pickens is still on the right track!!!!!!
No.2 keep working!
Oh, Thanks! Really interesting. Big ups!
T. Boone proposes natural gas use as a bridge to sustainable transportation energy not as a replacement for liquid petroleum fuel.
