Azure Hybrid Bus - using an ultracapacitorThere has been a flurry of news lately around future of Ultracapacitors and Supercapacitors.   Maxwell Technologies announced that they were picked for use of their BoostCap R (390 volt) ultracapacitor as the energy storage device for Azure Dynamic's commerical hybrid-electric vehicles.  Azure also has a hybrid shuttle bus like this one in the photo that they are using ultracapacitors in. This is paving the way for more and more companies choosing this as an alternative energy storage device.

Scott Harrison, Azure's Chief Executive Officer, said, "Ultracapacitors' rapid charge/discharge capabilities and low resistance makes them more efficient in recapturing regenerative braking energy, than battery-based systems. In certain applications, the combination of ultracapacitors' long life and their regen efficiency translates into better lifecycle costs. The high annual mileage associated with shuttle bus service is one of those applications and we are pleased to be working with Maxwell to take advantage of this technology."
