The current high gasoline price is a good thing. Yes, I said it. It's not my most popular comment.. I know that.. but I believe it.. I have for years. It will take very high gas prices for the world to realize and move towards electric vehicles. (psssst… ultracapacitors) So.. I noticed where the CEO of General Motors recently said to a stunned media that the world cannot produce enough oil to meet the rising demand. This is known as "Peak Oil". Here is part of his speech at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS): "Good morning. . . welcome to the start of the 2008 auto show season. You know, similar to our opening act this morning, the auto industry has a lot of balls in the air right now when it comes to the future of automotive propulsion, and for very good reason. Earlier this month, the price of oil hit a hundred-dollars-a-barrel, as demand for energy around the world is growing faster than supply. Here's an amazing statistic: on a global basis, to satisfy all energy needs, we're consuming roughly 1,000 barrels of oil every single second. . . and the rate of consumption continues to grow. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, the world will need about 70 percent more energy in 2030 than it did in 2004. Now, when you consider these facts in light of the world's heavy reliance on oil for automotive transportation. . . in the U.S. , for example, 96 percent reliance on oil. . . we have to ask ourselves. . . what does all this mean for the global auto industry? For us at GM, the answer is perfectly clear. As a business necessity, and an obligation to society. . . we need to develop alternative sources of propulsion. . . based on diverse sources of energy. . . to meet the world's growing demand for our products." - G Richard Wagoner Jr - CEO of General Motors Wagoner went on to say that GM has plans to launch around 25 flexible fuel / electric models in the near future. So.. see.. I told you... high gas price is a good thing! It forces industry to change and adopt new and better alternatives (psssst… Ultracapacitors) This change is imminent.

that is great. high gas price is a good thing if we want a better and more well developed green energy cars. good thought. No.2 Untitled
Peak Oil is an urban myth ... No.3 Peak Oil is an Urban Myth?
Where do you get that information?

No.4 Exactly!
The amount of investment into researching alternative technologies increases as using the current dominant technology becomes less economical, no matter the industry, ceteris paribus. And alternative energy storage technologies definitely need to be researched and implemented as quickly as possible to minimize the damage caused by the petroleum regime along with the long-term costs(and thus maximize longterm economic efficiency). It's really in almost everyone's longterm interests(Except, perhaps, the oil profiteers). No.5 Peak oil is real
Oh, peak oil is real alright. The simple fact is that since 2005 the number of barrels of oil produced has not changed (~86 mil.) but the demand has gone up (China, India, Russia, Africa, etc.).
The price of gas is a double edged sword. On the one hand it makes people "try" to get more efficient. On the other hand capacitors (all of them) will be much more expensive because they are made from oil (from mining raw material to transportation to assembly and distribution). Most of you people cannot afford the very expensive caps right now - how many will you buy when the price doubles or triples? For that matter how many of you have bought solar panels or extra food? (food? It takes 10 calories eq. of energy to get 1 calorie of food to your mouth)
Your like a deer staring at headlights comming at you. Don't just believe - find out, do some research. Here, here is a website that you can read up on it: www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net or type "LATOC" in a search engine. |
