More Efficient Use of Energy: Ultracapacitor |

Over the past few months, I am fortunate that I have had the chance to talk with some incredible people in this industry. Last week, I was having a conversation with Soon Choi about specific applications that could use an ultracapacitor in the current market. He summed up several key markets that are a great use of an ultracapacitor:
- Automatic Meter Readers (AMR)
- Electric Valves
- Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
- Toys
- Hand held tools (Like the Flashcell Screwdriver)
- Solar applications
Ultracapacitors are being designed for applications that need short burst of power… a good example would be a valve in the oil/gas/water industry that would need to open or close (the main specifications are: 2.5 (2.7) V 3F, 5F, 10F, 25F, 100F). We are doing a story now on solar power using ultracapacitors as the energy storage device. It should be up soon. I would like to talk about the specifics of how the energy is stored during the day and used at night. (specs:2.3V 22F, 50F, 120F, 220F) I think that we have an obligation to help this world use energy in a more efficient way. The ultracapacitor market is just beginning…

When a burst of energy is needed, the low internal resistance of the ultracapacitor delivers the needed current, whereas the higher resistance of the chemical battery causes the battery voltage to collapse. Ultracapacitors serve to eliminate the instantaneous energy demands placed on the battery and this in turn extends battery run time and prevents declining charge capacity as the battery ages. http://eestor.biz
