As we move closer to true hybrid electric vehicles that have zero emissions, I just noticed where Morgan Motors has developed a concept car called Life Car.  The Morgan LifeCar was launched for the Geneva Car Show. This new vehicle will shatter the Morgan reputation as just "old fashioned" cars and vehicles. The LifeCar is a beautiful fuel cell powered car that will go from 0-60 in seven seconds. Did I happen to mention that it's fuel cell will be backed up by a series of ultracapacitors? The ultracaps will be charged by the vehicles regenerative braking system. I think I just wrote an article on this exact concept a few weeks ago... THIS will be our new vehicle trend. The LifeCar’s purpose is to demonstrate that a zero emission vehicle can also be fun to drive. The combination of performance, range and fuel economy will allow a sporting driver of the future to demonstrate a concern for the environment. Going far beyond the incremental adaptation of traditional car designs as seen in current hybrid vehicles, it will demonstrate that a new step in vehicle architecture is enabled by the use of a fuel cell hybrid power train. Their approach was to design a system which the architecture is generated from the characteristics of the fuel cell, in a light-weight vehicle coupled with a high hybridization level. This combination will minimize the fuel cell cost and provide the fuel economy for a 200 mile range. A specific objective of the LifeCar project was to lower the current entry barriers for a vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell as (well as ultracapacitors). Hey Michael - I wish I could afford one..I don't think I can yet. I am looking forward to seeing some cool cars like this from US automakers.. I know that day is coming soon.
